Qualifications for This Office: Willoughby-Eastlake School Board, 28 years. Experience as a technical engineer & supervisor of maintenance at Cleveland Electrical Illuminating with a 5 million dollar budget.
What do you consider the most difficult challenge facing this office and how would you address this challenge?
The first issue to be resolved is the upcoming contract negotiations with all of the district unions. The district wide building renovation needs are an important long term project. An architectural firm has been hired to review the 5, 10, & 15 year building needs survey.

Qualifications for This Office: Teaching experience in this school district, College level, and graduate classes to educators. Providing technology assistance to teachers and students. My knowledge of the state standards required by the state.
What do you consider the most difficult challenge facing this office and how would you address this challenge? A goal for our school district is to create an educational environment where all of our students will exit this system with the tools of knowledge to provide them an opportunity to have a successful life. It is imperative we structure all courses of study to be current and useful.

I have been a member of the Willoughy-Eastlake Board of Education for twelve years. I am a strong advocate of public education, and bring my experiences in the service, in the business community, and in legal affairs to the Board.
What do you consider the most difficult challenge facing this office and how would you address this challenge?
Costs of education are rising and our buildings are aging, at the same time state funding is being reduced. Our biggest challenge in the next four years will be to continue to fund a high quality education for each student and to raise additional money to restore our facilities.

Qualifications for This Office: Thirty years in education has afforded me the opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of the educational process. I was able to advocate for the needs of children while also considering the desires of parents, teachers, administrators.
What do you consider the most difficult challenge facing this office and how would you address this challenge?
The challenge is to provide our children with the best educational tools available by:
--Exploring additional methods of acquiring funds that will directly benefit students including the organization of the district grant writing process
--Striving to make facility improvement a priority
--Expanding communication between the schools and the public

Occupation: Teacher for 31 years. Special education teacher for past 23 years at Broadmoor School for Lake County Board of MRDD.
Education:
Bachelor degree from Lake Erie College in Elementary Education. Masters degree in Curriculum and Development from Cleveland State University.
Qualifications for This Office: Education background as a teacher in both elementary and special education and as parent to two children who attended the Willoughby-Eastlake gifted and talented program. I was appointed to the board two years ago, so have real experience in this position.
What do you consider the most difficult challenge facing this office and how would you address this challenge? Biggest challenge is the school funding issue. All costs are rising, including new state mandates. We need to find a better way to fund these costs, rather than the reliance on local tax increases. The teachers took a salary freeze to help, but a long-term solution is needed.

I have been involved in education for 33 years as a teacher, coach and athletic administrator. I have also served as a building rep and on the executive board for the South Euclid Lyndhurst Teachers Assoc. I also serve as a contract negotiator.
What do you consider the most difficult challenge facing this office and how would you address this challenge?
In these difficult economical times for many people in our communities it is imperative that we spend tax dollars wisely. The students are our first priority and we will need to assure them a well rounded and quality education K-12. I believe my experience in education will help me accomplish this goal.
